Massey, was first run nerup in the World Peace Speak ing Contest. Guy, who will be 16 in September, is a member of the sophomore class at Wakelon School, a member of the Science and Public Speaking Clubs, treas urer of the band, and Methodist MYF. Senior Woman's Chib to Meet The Senior Woman’s Club’s last meeting of the current club year will be held Tuesday night, May 7, the president, Mrs. Armstrong Cannady, announces. This meeting will be a family night affair for the members’ hus bands and guests. A supper, pre pared by the members, will be served. Club members are to pre pare one dish and may find out what they are to carry by calling Mrs. A. S. Hinton or Mrs. Cannady. There will be no program and the meal will be served at 6:30. WENDELL, NORTH CAROLINA Wakelon FFA Holds Father-Son Banquet The Wakelon Chapter of Fu ture Farmers of America held its regular Father and Son Banquet Friday evening, April 19, in the school cafeteria. The purpose of the banquet was to promote a closer comradeship between father and son; to pro vide an opportunity for the devel opment of a stronger bond be tween fathers and the school; and to make it. possible for the fathers to become better acquainted with the work of the Future Farmers of America. The speaker of the evening was John H. Ihrie, III, dairy farmer and citizen of the community. He pointed out some of the aspects of farming a generation ago and of the present. Several awards were made at the banquet. The first degree of mem bership, The Green Hand, was pre sented to the following members: Carl Bunn, Charles Denton, Jerry Flood, Don Liles, Adrian Murray, Vicky Murry, Linwood Oakley, Dan Perry, Phillip Privette, Frank Pulley, Jesse Ray and Ellis Rhodes. Other awards presented were: public speaking, Jimmy Parrish; tool identification, Linwood Oak ley; land judging, Richard Joyner; farm mechanics, Dwight Pearce; and poultry farming, Pou Ihrie. Golden Anniversary Tuesday, April 30, was the 50th wedding anniversary of the Rev. and Mrs. C. C. Wheeler. There was no celebration. The Rev. Mr. Wheeler is a re tired Baptist minister. His wife is the former Effie Edwards Mar tin. They are the parents of three children, Mrs. Ray Goodwin of Zebulon, Mrs. H. M. Shaw of Ra leigh, and Miss Esther Martin of Windsor. Miss Palmer Hostess To Mes Amis Players Miss Mary L. Palmer was re cently hostess to the Mes Amis Bridge Club. The drawing room of Wakelon dormitory was vivid with arrangements of spring flow ers. Playing were Mrs. Howard Beck, Mrs. Philip Olive, Mrs. Ben Thomas, Mrs. Fred Smith, Mrs. I. D. Gill, Mrs. Helen Gregory, Mrs. Lois Wall, all members; and Mrs. Jack Mitchell, Mrs. L. E. Long, Mrs. Stephen Blackley, Mrs. Wal lace Chamblee and Mrs. Wallace Temple, guests. Club high score prize was pre sented to Mrs. Wall, with low go ing to Mrs. Smith. Guest high and low prizes went to Mrs. Mit chell and Mrs. Chamblee, respect ively. After the conclusion of three progressions, the hostess served strawberry shqrtcake, chicken salad sandwiches, cheese straws, pickle and coffee. Fruit punch was passed during play. Mrs. Page Entertains At Bridge Wednesday Mrs. Fred Page was hostess to the Wednesday Afternoon Club last week at her home on Aren dell Avenue. Arrangements of spring flowers were used for dec oration. Members playing were Mrs. C. V. Whitley, Mrs. A. R. House, Mrs. E. C. Daniel, Mrs. M. B. Chamblee, Mrs. F. E. Bunn, Mrs. E. H. Moser, Mrs. S. G. Flowers, Mrs. J. F. Coltrane, Mrs. J. K. Barrow, Mrs. B. H. Johnson and Mrs. John Kemp. Mrs. Elizabeth Ellett came as guest. Alter three progressions the hostess served congealed fruit salad, ham biscuits, pickle, ice box chocolate pie and coffee.
